Buyer's guide

After 2005 reforms foreigners were encouraged to buy the property in Egypt, especially in tourism zones. Foreigners can purchase the property and the land with some limitations.

Restrictions on Foreigners buying Egyptian property

Foreigners officially can buy two residential properties; the total area of the properties must not exceed 4,000 sq. m. The property owned by foreigner and registered in Land Registry can not be sold within 5 years after the purchase.

Buying property in Egypt

After finding the right property it is highly recommended to use independent Arabic speaking lawyer, who could check the property documentation and register your estate. Most of properties in Egypt are not registered, so the professional checking of estate is essential.

Property registration

The registration of the property in Egypt can be long process, up to 4-6 month. In practice, buyers are using “signature validity” court verdict to buy the property (In Sharm el Sheikh there is no other way to buy the property). By using “signature validity” court verdict you can buy as many properties as you like and sell them any time. The official registration gives you the full protection of the ownership, but you are not entitled to resell the property for 5 years after the purchase.
